Attention to the Detail in Auditions

Attention to detail is very important as an actor. Most of my friends in Atlanta are actors and Ive noticed that some of them don’t take the time to notice all the details. I’m not talking about the audition itself, but what you do before and after the audition.

When I get an audition request, I read through the request carefully. I highlight important information:

  • When is the the audition is due.
  • How many takes do they want.
  • How they want it taped (closeup, chest up, waist up, etc).
  • The description of the character I am auditioning for.
  • How do they want the files to be named
  • What do they want in the slate
  • Do they want the slate in a separate or same file.

These are important as some casting agents won’t even look at an audition if file names are wrong, or directions weren’t followed.

NAMING FILES

Here’s an example of file naming convention.

Firstname Lastname_ROLE_SC1TK1

This tells me that the first letter of the first name is capitalized.

The first letter of the last name is capitalized.

Then an underscore.

Than the role name in all capitals.

Make sure this is exactly how you name your files. It would suck to not have your audition seen just because you named your file wrong.

CHECKING AFTER UPLOADING AUDITIONS

I always check to make sure my auditions upload correctly and once uploaded, I watch them to make sure there are no issues with the files.

Simple little things like this don’t take much time and they will guarantee your audition will be seen.
