Happy New Year Everyone. I hope 2024 is an amazing year for all of you.

I have allowed actors to come over to my place to use my audition setup since I started acting almost a year ago. Most of the time it’s a good experience, but some actors will come over and be completely unprepared. Shockingly unprepared.

There are actors who need very little or no preparation to audition. These are the actors who have been acting for years and have had years of training, theater majors. The rest, when unprepared, it shows in their audition.

I had an actor who came over to tape two scenes. As he entered my house, he mentioned that he has only read over the sides once. After two hours of fumbling lines, trying different things, he had an audition that he got through, barely. Based on the result, there was no way he was going to get the role. It was a waste of his time and my time.

By the time I get in front of the camera, I understand the scene, the character. I know how I am going to say each line. The inflection of my voice. The pace of the dialogue. Where my pauses and beats will be. I know what movements I will make, what expressions will be on my face and at what point. By the time I get in front of the camera, I am completely prepared.

The audition is arguably the most important thing that an actor will do and because of that, I prepare for it. As much as I do for a role or even more. Here’s the post I made on how I prepare and do my auditions.
