I had an actor friend come over the other night to do an audition. He told me it was the biggest audition he’s ever gotten and he wanted it to look right so he came over to use my equipment. When he got to my place, he told me it was a Tim Story project and it was starring Charlize Theron. The casting call was found on Facebook.
If you don’t know, Tim Story is a director with over 70 credits to his name including, Tom & Jerry, Shaft and Fantastic Four. He also doesn’t post casting calls on Facebook. At his level, casting calls go through casting agencies and usually only to talent reps who submit their clients. The reason I know this is a scam is that it’s the same casting call he posted over a year ago when I originally saw it. I went through the process and stopped when he asked for personal information, stating he needed it to get flight estimates. You do not need anyones personal information to get prices on flights.
Most large budget films and TV shows do not publicly post casting calls, even on Actor’s Access. There is another level of Actor’s Access that only talent reps have access to and that is where large budget project post casting calls. I only see them when my agent sends me the auditions. Open casting calls are rare.
