I submitted to the Deloitte casting call on Actor’s Access after I read that they were looking for a Steve Ioki type that was an artist (not DJ) for the role. I had been told I looked like Steve at least a half a dozen times since I grew my hair out (I don’t see it) by random strangers, so I figured I would get an audition. The audition, callback and booking all happened within a week. Sunday, I got the audition. I turned in the audition Monday night. Tuesday I got the email that I was on callback. Wednesday was the callback. And Thursday I was offered the role.
The Audition
The audition was a typical commercial audition. A slate, an introduction video and then a few actions. First, I folded a paper airplane, then rearranged furniture and lastly pretended to paint a painting. I took my time with each action and had a little fun with it.
The Callback
I got the callback cMail on Actor’s Access two hours before the auditions were closed.
The callback was on Zoom and was with the casting director and commercial director. They wanted to get a sense of my personality and then pretend to paint in a specific way. The meeting lasted less than 10 minutes and then I signed off. As I was getting in my van to go to work, I got a call from the casting director. She wanted to know if I could hop back into Zoom because the director wanted to ask me a couple more questions and see my hair up in a bun. I had changed into my work t-shirt so my tattoos were showing, but she didn’t care. I got back on Zoom and the director asked me to put my hair in a man bun. As I was fumbling, I told him the Steve Ioki thing and how people think I look like him. After he saw my hair up, he asked about my tattoos; specifically the hand tats. That is when I thought that I wouldn’t get the commercial.
The Booking
24 hours after the Zoom meeting, I got the email from the casting director that I had booked the role. I emailed my agent and manager to tell them the good news. The commercial shoots in Nashville between May 2-6.
