Taking Charge of Your Acting Career: Why I Still Apply for My Own Casting Calls

I was asked by another actor why I look and apply to my own casting calls when I have an agent. My answer? No one will care about my career more than me and I will do everything I can to make sure I am successful.

Up until the writer’s strike, I was getting 1-2 auditions a week from my agent. And as of today, I have still yet to book a role that my agent has sent out of the 20 or so auditions I’ve done. If I had just left it up to my agent to find me work, I would still not have a reel and would have a mostly empty resume.

If you don’t take control of your career, who will?

  1. acting classes
  2. headshots
  3. resume
  4. sign up on casting websites
  5. apply for student films, independent features and passion projects
  6. always be networking
